Alan Louis | Chiara Colombini

Alan Louis, designer and ceramist divides his time between Lisbon, Paris and Brittany.

Alan Louis' tables and benches are all made by hand in chamotte sandstone (containing grains of sand). The clay is fired between two and three times at temperatures between 800 and 1400 degrees, a process which solidifies the clay, making the table as strong as if it were made of stone.

It is through a work of assembly, modeling, sculpture and different firings that the tables come to life. Clay is an almost "living" material due to the changes in the material between drying and firing. This make the curves slightly irregular and dimensions may vary slightly. Each table is unique.

Alan Louis makes all his pieces in Portugal. Each piece is numbered and signed by the designer.
